MEDITATION FOR JUNIORS
BACKGROUND
I believe that in the current world, especially for those like me in transitional periods like teenagehood , there is a startling lack of mental health and critical thought. Through my experience in academics, mental health, and the changing world around me, I came to realize that the solutions to such problems were surprisingly within reach – we just didn't see it. That's why, through this website, I aim to share the power of meditation, and secondarily to share my learning journey of various other important topics like philosophy, economics, psychology, and sociopolitics to impact others.
BACKGROUND
Hi! My name's Spencer Park, and I'm a student at an international school in Korea. I love to learn and share about meditation, as well as a variety of other topics such as philosophy, psychology, and economics. Part of my meditation background comes from Buddhism (I even have a dharma name, 법산, which means that some of the things I learned from Buddhism may help in meditation. It's been very interesting to see how Eastern meditative practices and Western meditative practices like MBSR or MBCT compare to each other in methods and purpose.

In learning about meditation, I came to learn about psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, and much more. Meditation is not just about sitting and concentrating, but actually implies much more. It's about understanding the mind and who you really are. That's where such fields interested me. I wanted to learn more about what exactly in the brain meditation affects, and how that affects you cognitively. And simply trying to understand myself better led me to philosophy!
Besides my interests, I am a volleyball player, pianist, an MUNer, to name a few. Playing with teammates, honing my technical skills, and speaking about topics that excite me are just some of the many ways I aim to express my passions.

Through my efforts in this project, I was eventually featured on Netflix in a documentary along with my tutees. After that, I was able to gain additional students, which allowed me to expand the horizons of my project. I believe that through such events, my project has demonstrated and has been able to reach a wide demographic and leave behind a lasting impact!

ACTIVITIES

Blog
I believe learning and understanding yourself are two important qualities for success. Within this journey for myself and others, I came to offer English lessons for children, discussing various topics like meditation and health . Through this, I believe I can genuinely come to know more about myself, by helping others do the same. Some of my experience with teaching kids can be found in my blog!
MORE DETAILS
In my lessons, I sometimes show articles about meditation. I go over them and break down the lesson, including the content, vocabulary, and explanations. That way, I can teach both English and the topic at hand effectively.
In addition, we practice meditation. Starting out, we may only meditate for a few minutes, but later, it can potentially grow to ten minutes. We discuss how to meditate, and also how you felt after meditate. It is important to understand why something is important before actually doing it, which is the reason why I also talk about how meditation makes you feel.
